  101. beautiful photographs. I saw the photo gallery of France too but couldn’t find a like or comment box. Thanks for sharing ….I could take a glimpse of France.

    • Thanks for stopping by and your comment. Yes you are right all the older photo galleries don’t have likes or comment options. I made it with Adobe Lightroom before I created this blog with WordPress. This was easy and fast as I had only to upload it with FTP and put a link to it but I can’t get any likes 🙁

  102. Your blog is definitely different from all of the run of the mill out there. What a fresh new article.

  103. These are beautiful. Also add the photo challenge ping back

  104. Looks like he/she’s having a great time with that ice cream 🙂

  105. Recycled art-making by the sea. Lovely.

  106. Your pics are gorgeous, the runner in the middle of the buidings, Asia photos, is adding life to the concrete, very interesting. I didn’t find a comment section in there, so I’m adding it here.

  107. thanks so much for the like of my ‘twist.’ I love yours–the little guy with the ice cream is wonderful! I have enjoyed looking at your photos. Many, many moons ago I had a penpal who lived in New South Wales. All these years later, I have still kept the beautiful scrapbook she sent me for my birthday. What a gift.

    • Thank you for your comment and time you spend browsing my photos. I’m glad you like it and I could refresh some memories. Feel free to come back you are always welcome.

  108. You definitely win the most unique response award on this one Erwin! Nicely done!

    • Thank you so much for your comment Tina. This means a lot for me. I’m Impressed of your portfolio and blog. You have amazing photos. I love all of them.

  109. Great pictures!

  110. how creative!

  111. Impressive works and really good photos. I really like the idea to make such arts! Inspiring!

    • Thank you so much Indah. I would love my photos would be as good as yours. Art from recycled stuff is coming very popular here and some are very good. I like the cloth they are making from recycled good. Last years winner was made from plastic bags.

  112. wow..stunning photo of beautiful sky! Well captured!

    • Thank you Indah, This was an easy one, just out of the backyard. I have too many sunsets from there but wanted to test the fisheye converter for the 16mm pancake lens. 🙂 (Never used in landscape till now 🙁 )

      • That’s awesome to have a backyard with amazing view – and great idea to use the fisheye converter, I have never done it before.

        • Thank you. Yes we like our location. But you can also see how lazy I am. Take only a step out of the house to try a new lens. Others would go down to the beach and shoot amazing photos. But it’s just not the same when you are always there and you have it on your doorstep. Take care Indah I love all your posts and comments.

  113. Stunning beach! Beautiful photos Erwin – and I love the photo collection of the area.

    • Thank you Indah, your right it’s easy, there you hold the camera and click. Even I can shoot nice pictures there, imagine how they would look if you would be behind the camera? Just stunning. You are an inspiration.

      • 🙂 Thank you so much for your kind comment Erwin! I enjoy seeing your pictures and I am sure I will return to see some more..Trust me, yours also inspiring too 🙂

        • Thank you for your comment Indah. You landed with this and the San Remo message in my spam. I’m so happy to recover two jewel. You made my day. 🙂

Kannst jetzt Feierabend machen 🙂
      LG Erwin.

  115. Beautiful. The usage of different computer parts is unique. Never thought of the printer cover to be used in such a way. Thanks for sharing these innovative stills. Cheers..!

    • Thanks for stopping by. And it fits quite well to my real look 🙂 so I used it again. Let’s say recycling recycled goods. 🙂

  119. Looks like you had a wonderful holiday in Bali! The photo of Balinese dancers is really nice!

    • Yes it was nice. It was the first time for me to visit Bali. We liked it very much and the people are very very nice. Do you know all the places we visited?

      • Yes, Balinese are very friendly 🙂 Not all places I am familiar with.. I am familiar with Ubud, Sanur, Tanah Lot in your pictures..but I have never been to the temple Penataran Agung, so many temples there :)) Did you visit the night dining area at Jimbaran beach – but it’s bit quite a ride from Sanur beach where you stayed..

        • No we did go there we missed that. Is it special? I have a friend who is living now in Bali and if I remember well it is in Jimbaran. Not on the beach but a little on the top of the mountain how I have seen it on Skype. Next time we go to Bali we will for sure visit him eventually stay there. 🙂

          • Not super special but you will experience a dining in open air on the beach next to the sea. They served fresh seafood dining. Good to try for different atmosphere 🙂

          • Thank you for this tip Indah. Good to know for the next time. Fresh seafood is always good when you don’t have to catch it. 🙂 We like Sanur because there is much less hassle bustle than Kuta and the Hyatt is in walking distance to the city with good dining. There are also few 100 meters some good restaurants direct at the beach. We went there many times for lunch and dinner and had always excellent food. The local food is just much better than the international cuisine in the hotels or resorts.

  120. This is really special place. I have never seen the boulders like these. The opening of the video is also really nice, the scene when the boulder were sparkling because of the sun (?) is so beautiful. Well made video Erwin!

  121. This is a pretty cool shot! I don’t think he realized that you took his picture :)) Was he running away from someone?

    • No I don’t think so. He was all black dressed, I think it was for a film. There was a something like this around. I was very lucky.

  122. Very cool! Great shot!

  123. Just love this shot, the contrast between the tall immobile buildings and the runner frozen between them. Truly a split second shot.

  124. Right place, right time! great shot!

  125. Perfect shot; great entry.

  126. Hi, don’t know if others are having the same problem, but when I click on “like” it doesn’t work, yes I’m logged in, so there must be a glitch somewhere with WP or am i censored from your site? Anyways, interesting photo.

    • Hi, Thank you for stopping by. I don’t know. I had some problem with displaying the likes earlier but this is know solved. I tried it here and it worked for me. Is it only on this page ore on all? .

  127. Great capture!

  128. Sometimes you don’t realise how good the shot is until you take the time to analyse it. This is a fantastic shot.

    • Thank you. You saying this means a lot to me. You made my day, it’s my Birthday. You are totally right. I even thought to make it black and white. I’m not very experienced in this with Lightroom and even less with Photoshop, but your portfolio inspires me really to give it a go. You have amazing shots in it.

  129. Great photos. I went to sculpture by the sea at Bondi for the first time last year and enjoyed it. The skeleton rider was there but not the others you’ve photographed. The Arts scene for the masses seems to be enjoying a boom in Australia these days.

  130. It is amazing to see such huge dam so close like this..Nice pictures and video!

    • Thank you Indah I’m gald you (like) it, certainly you are amazed when the dam breaks being so close. 🙁 Normally you can walk right to the outlet. You can see the flooded walkway. The unique thing is that it overflows very seldom. We have a permanent water shortage and water restrictions here 🙁 says the government. 😛 🙂

      • That would be scary to see it so close when it breaks!! Hopefully it will never happens..

        • Yea right, and all what’s below would be fluted and washed away too… but disaster like this happen from our man made constructions… and often only because the greed or misjudgement of some individuals.

  131. Wow! This is a very special shot! A surprise that turned amazingly well! 🙂

    • Thank you Suri. Yes I like it too. First I was angry because again somebody went in front of the lens, but then when I have seen it I loved it. He has a perfect ruining style 🙂

  132. Loved the title! Very funny 🙂

  133. What a nice post to read! I am so glad to take a break from my office reading materials to read the amusement you had in these top five destinations! Alaska story is very sweet and there is a romantic story behind it. I really like the caption of the photo when you said Alaska saved the marriage 🙂
Beautiful post! It made me want to visit to these places – thank you for participating in the challenge Erwin and sharing with us how wonderful the trips were.

    • 🙂 thanks to you I could do this challenge… and it was a challenge. Worked 2 days no stop, and when I’m looking now back at it I’m asking me what did I do, why did I have 2 days and one night for it? But it’s good for us too watching this old photos again and having some on the computer now helps to refresh old man’s memory. 🙂

    • Hi Indah, I have the same comment as you with regards to the Alaska story. What a journey it must be! 🙂

  134. Yay! you posted it! 🙂 It was such a privilege to read it first hand 🙂 Loved the photos! Film photography has such a great feel to it that no digital camera can give! Thanks again for sharing this! Lovely stories! 🙂

    • Thank you so much helping me Suri. 🙂 It was quite hard to put all the potos together. I’m glad you like it. I prefer digital 🙂 much easier to handle but I’m surprised how good the slides are coming out. They are much older than you 🙂

  135. Wonderful shots and an enjoyable read. I didn’t realise you were from Switzerland and France. The summer weather in WA must be a shock to the system.

Thanks for the invitation. I normally steer away from my travels on my blog, but I’ll see what I can do. I’ve already posted photos on my blog of my favourite travel destination – the Northern Territory.

    • Yes, I’m from Switzerland and my wife from France, Cote d’Azur or French Riviera. The climate is the main reason why we retired here. The cote has about the same climate but it’s too crowed. That’s why we did not settle in Sydney either, but we see more and more the disadvantage from the big isolation here.

I think the challenge is a bit different from other WordPress challenges it’s for a booking site. Next time I would go also with beautiful photos from WA, Esperance, Dunsborough, Christian Fletcher hometown. But it was great fun to refresh this old memories and have a look at the old and dusted slides. NT is sure a great destination to push. I think it’s worth to contribute for this beautiful part of the world.

  136. Sometimes the best shot jumps right at you out of nowhere! A striking pose indeed 🙂

  137. Wirklich interessant… WO ist denn diese schöne Höhle?

    • Vielen Dank fürs reinschauen. In Western Australia.

    LG, Petra

    • Lass dir Zeit Petra. 🙂 Es würde mich wundern was du Denkst,

  156. Beautiful photos Erwin! These are iam in Jkt now..only available using mobiephone at this moment. Connection is faster thar way 😉

    • Great to know you arrived well in one piece. Have a great holiday and safe trip home. I can’t wait for your photos. And what a great achievement you bring home. 🙂

  157. Very smart understanding of the meaning of room. Love the bird photo! Did you use special lens?

    • Thank you Indah. I’m glad you like. I will have a look at the metadata tomorrow. The other computer with the pictures is down now. WordPress is driving me crazy today. It’s time to go for a sleep now.

    • Hi Indah, I hope you feel good at home and have not too much jetlag. I Used my old Canon EOS 400D with even an older EF75-300 f4 and cropped it to 100%. The last photo was underexposed (Iso100 1/800sec f10) against bushes in the shade. I used only Lightroom to bring the bird to live and darken the background.

  158. Very nice photos of intriguing places, but I’m glad I don’t have to live in one!

  159. Interesting historical photos.

  160. Very nice pictures!

  161. … and took the shot again without the guy; so now you have the best of both worlds …

    • Thanks for stopping by and your comment. Yes I did but the other shot is only one of many. This one is for me very special.

  162. WA is such a beautiful place. Sadly I’ve only been to Perth. I hope to find the time to explore further afield out west.

    • Thank you Draco. Yes true we have some beautiful places here. Especially down south from Esperance to Albany and around Dunsborough . We are spoiled here.

  163. Nice series. The gallows – such a stark reminder of the past.

    • Thank you Draco. True, and it’s not so long. 1964 was the last man hanged there.

    • Thank you Draco. True it’s not so long 1964 was the last man hanged there. And capital punishment was officially abolished by an act of State Parliament in 1984 only.

  164. What a variety of rooms!! 🙂

    • Thank you Madhu for stopping by. Yes some have very nice paintings from inmates painted direct to the wall but still very small.

  165. Iran looks absolutely fascinating. Great read, fantastic post!

    • Thank you so much to put this great blog up and giving me the opportunity to contribute. I’m glad you like my post.

  166. Caves are so beautiful and contain some of the worlds unknown things.I like watching the discovery channel documentaries on them. Very beautiful

  167. Love your contrasting interpretations of Room. Room can be a place where we’re free to soar and be anyone we like, but it can also be a place where we’re subjected to be someone else. Not many of us would like to be in the latter 🙂

  168. Great photos of the caves!

  169. Stunning shot and view. Sunsets over water are often magical and something we don’t get in Sydney obviously.

    • Thank you Draco. True, you are on the other side of the continent but sunrises are very similar. I’m fortunate having it on my doorstep but you get used to it and after years I rarely capture one. It’s a bit a shame.

  170. Hahahahaha – great snaps – am so loving the pelican. 😀

    • Thank I’m glad you like it.:) I guess you would not if it where you preparing the BBQ 🙂 But you’re right they are great birds. Once I have seen one crossing the road and walking into a Fish and Chips shop.

  171. So funny. Great captures.

  174. THat bird is the star!

  175. Haha, what a rude pelican 🙂

  176. lol. loved the photos! ^^ that was hilarious.

  177. Wow – he was quite the aggressive fellow wasn’t he?! Hope it was fish on the barby 🙂

    • Thank you for stopping by and commenting Tina. No it was meat, probably a good piece of beef ready for fillets. Yes they can be quite aggressive. I would not fight with one.

  178. That is an amazing (and daring) bird. 🙂

    • Thank you Draco. Yes indeed and to lazy to fish his own food. Maybe he is water shy or prefer to play soccer. 🙂

  179. Nice shot!

  180. haha! Courageous bird.. Stealing right in front of the owner… 🙂

  181. simply magnifique… stunning, indeed! my very best, Mélanie

  182. I often miss Japan, Taiwan, Hawaii, Iceland, Norway – I’d return there any time… 🙂

    • Thank you for stopping by. I hope you don’t get bogged in my blog. If it should happen, just call me I will recover you. 🙂

  183. This is so beautiful. Were there dolphins there?

    • Na we could not see any dolphins. The ones in the video “Surfing with Dolphins” are I captured in Port Bouvard, south of Mandurah. Here you can see often, in the ocean and foreshore or canals.

  184. magnifique… HL=huge like… 🙂 yep, choices and decisions we make every day… it’s reminded me of the famous sculpture “the kiss” by the French-Romanian sculptor Brâncusi:

  185. that is very cool

  186. Nice one!

  187. Ein wirklich schönes Foto!
    LG, Petra

  188. Think this one is fantastic, just love it.

  189. The sculpture from your back yard?

  193. Just the right moment … great capture.

  194. These are great for the theme. I particularly like the middle set taken from two perspectives. Very creative.

    • Yes it was an interesting art work to showcase. Thank you Sue for stopping by and commenting.

  195. That d light installation is pretty cool!

  196. These photos are gorgeous!

    • Thank you Imelda. I’m happy you like it, I do it too. For me this Landscape is very special. The contrasts are amazing. White sand on the beach (sadly at this time a little mixed with the red blown by the wind) and red from the dunes. The colour change is impressive in a sharp line. For me this is very special.

  197. Beautiful photos collection Erwin! The color composition in these photos are showing the contrasts – simply stunning!

    • Thank you Indah. I’m glad you like this composition too. Cape Peron is magic and I love to go there to do a bit of 4WD driving. The contrast of the red dunes with the white sand of the beach is stunning especially around midday, the time you should not take any pictures. 🙂

  198. WOW!! Love the star effect on the statue, this is really perfect for the submission!

  199. LOL :)) Good timing to catch these precious moment Erwin..I guess this pelican has particular taste in food 😉

  200. The best parts of Australia are often the remote areas. Thanks for taking us there.

    • You are welcome Draco. Very true and so often only accessible by 4WD. We have indeed very beautiful land and seascape in this country. Thank you for visiting.

  201. wow, what a beautiful way of showing contrasts Erwin. So grand!.. 🙂

    • I’m glad you like this strong colour contrasts. It’s nearly unreal, but you have to see it in real. Thank you for stopping by.

  202. ahh… way soo cute.. 🙂

  203. Wow! Great photos! Love the contrast between the sand and the blue water!

LG, Erwin

  205. Amazing colors and great entry on the theme:)

  206. The first one tells the reality of life where sometime the contrast could quite a gap between the haves and the haves not.
While the second part, they showed how creative the photographer is! Great post Erwin and have a great weekend 🙂

    • Thank you Indah. Yes the first is really showing the difference. I was surprised to see that in Dubai, a very superlative city. But also there is not everything gold what’s brilliant and poverty is also visible. .

  207. These are beautiful! For some reason, WP is not letting me add “Like”. Maybe it will let me comment.

    • Thank you Linda for stopping by and letting me know. I’m sorry you can’t add any Like. Did you log into your WP account? Is it working on my other posts?

      • Yep, even tried logging out and back in. There are now two blogs that I don’t seem able to “Like”. Hopefully, it’s temporary!

        • Sorry for a so late reply. This email of you landed in spam and I have seen it only today. 🙁 I can’t understand this. I have two new posts Relic and Relic II, maybe you can try there. I’m with and the likes are with the JetPac plugin handled and are working normally.

  208. Splendid selection! Great photos Erwin.

  209. I am heading to Bali this summer, hope my trip is safe and scheduled 🙂

    LG, Petra

  211. Interesting capture from Dubai. The second set is really creative. Great examples of contrast.

    • Thank you for your visit and comment Kan. It is indeed interesting to see in a such modern city still transports by human power. 🙂

  214. I just delivered a film roll for developing a few days ago. It was in an old point&shoot camera that my dad used to have. My dad shot the first few photos many years ago, so It’ll be a surprise to see what’s on the film…

    • Thanks for stopping by Cardinal. I Hope the film did not catch any light during the years and they still know how to handle film. 🙂

  215. Brilliant choices for the challenge, and great photos too. My favorite is the last photo. I can’t help smiling to see the guy took a rest but also peeking looking at you 😉

    • Thank you Indah. Yea you’re right. It was the second shot probably he woke up from the first click of the shutter 🙂

  216. Aha, such an interesting concept for Relic. Lovely imagery. Should I say, you captured two relic lives deep in their world. 🙂

Do visit mg ‘relics’ as well. Thanks 🙂

  217. Great examples for the challenge!

    • Ohh thank you Madhu you made my day. I was first not so sure about it and thought I should post maybe better some ruins or old tractors I did in the second post.

  218. You are right, almost a relic (but not yet!), excellent idea Erwin!

  220. Excellent shot for this week’s challenge. I still see these kinds of sewing shops by the roadside in Malaysia, though they are slowly dwindling away. And Kodak! As a kid, my parents always took us a to a Kodak shop – again beside the road – to get my passport photo taken – it had to be a Kodak shop because my parents found it iconic (don’t know why, maybe it’s a trusted brand).

    • Thank you very much for your kind comment Mabel. Kodak was for sure a trusted brand and is now a struggling company because the digital photography. I remember well the Kodak Instamatic 100 Camera somehow one of the first compact cameras thought.

      • No, thanks Erwin for taking me back to a time in my past. Always good revisiting memories.

Now that you mention it, Kodak was all the rage back then in the 90s and early 2000s. At some point, someone in my family owned a Kodak point-and-shoot and we all loved using it. Very family-oriented brand back then, I reckon. So true that they are a struggling brand because of the digital revolution. Photography these days seems less family, more about individual, personalised moments.

        • You are right Mabel, Selfies did not exist, almost not 🙂 but family photos with self timer was in the trend. But now enjoy your photography and the immediate review of the work and no surprises after picking up the photos. 🙂

  221. Inspired choice and pic for the challenge.

  222. Fantastic colours!

  223. so gotta agree with Paul Simom: Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away! It’s a sad day….Great relic.

  224. So schöne Beispiele!

  225. I like the fountain in the last picture.

  228. HI, I wanted to let you know that I tried to like your Containers Photo Challenge, but your blog doesn’t cooperate!

    • Hi, Thank you for letting me know. I’m sorry that this is not working. I can’t understand it and if I try to “like” it, it works. I got earlier on an other post the same message and I can find your likes on different other posts as well. It looks like JetPack on is not very stable.

  229. Interesting containers. 🙂

    • Thank you Imelda. I can still see me as a little boy kneeing on it and drinking water from the running fountain. 🙂

  230. I had a quick look at the other photos too and the places looks cosy.

    • Thank you very much Cardinal. Yes it’s a beautiful small village in Graubünden. I did not see it when I was a kid and living there, but going back is a real pleasure and there has nothing changed the last 50+ years.

  231. Good choice of the photos for the challenge Erwin! The last photo is the winner 🙂

    • Thank you so much Indah. I’m so happy to see you here again. 🙂 I’m glad you like the Heidi Brunnen. It’s an Icon and part of the Heidi Land.

      • 🙂 it was a crazy busy week at work lately..I hope next week, the work will be nice to me.. I am glad to be able to enjoy your posts again!

        • Haha holiday are over! 🙂 I know the first week after vacation is always the hardest. A lot of undone work is waiting. 🙂 Take it easy Indah, tomorrow is an other day.

  232. Love the composition here. Was it a small steam train?

  233. Cool captures Erwin – and the only fountains I saw as a response to the challenge!

    • Thank you Tina. Yes it’s maybe they are not used anymore and are despairing slowly. Once upon a time you could find them in every corner, now the water is getting to precious.

  234. Very interesting sculpture in the last photo. A water fountain and a sculpture at the same time. Don’t know if the water is safe for drinking. I rarely drink out of water fountains in Melbourne. I just don’t trust that they are clean.

    • You are right Mabel, now it’s more difficult to trust then when I was a child. I drunk always the running water into the fountain, but never out of the fountain. Especially the one in picture 2 and 3. 🙂 In Switzerland it’s quite safe and if it’s not safe there is normally a sign “No drinking water”. I think it’s good to test it first and keep common sense. In Mandurah they have just now installed drinking water taps around in the city. I think this is even filtered water so it doesn’t taste. At home I drink always tap water and this is absolutely safe but in Bali I would never drink it.

      • Me too, never dipped my hands in and put a fistful of water to my mouth like that. At school, I used to drink from the metal water taps, though I’ve seen some people put their mouths to the water spout…

Water taps are quite common in Melbourne city too. Many of them look worse for wear, stained metal and all. I never drink from them. In places like Indonesia and Malaysia, I drink bottled water. Probably will do the same if I go to Bali.

        • Yea right I think as long as we use common sense we are safe and I think it would be waist of money to drink only bottled water in Australia. Yes in Malaysia and Indonesia you receive in all hotels bottled water and if is a bottle in the bath room I use it for cleaning the teeth.

          • I think some tourists see bottled water in Asian hotels as gifts. But I think they would be very naive if they thought that way. In Malaysia and Indonesia you really try not to drink water from the tap – even boiled tap water – as they water is pumped unfiltered directly from the well or ground. You don’t know what’s in there.

            • Yes I agree you must be naïve if you think it’s a gift. But I’m questioning often if rinsing the mouth is safe. I think most of the time it will be… and what does not kill you makes you stronger. Our body needs some bacteria too and we are starting to live to sterile especially the kids they are not anymore able to develop any natural resistance.

    LG, Petra

  236. Beautiful day, beautiful beach, nice weather. Perfect!

    • Thank you Cardinal. Yes it happen not often that we can use a parasol at the beach. Normally it’s just to windy here. But this was the perfect day. 🙂

  237. I can feel the summer here and it makes me want to jump to the sea!! Nice shot Erwin! Hope you are having a good weekend!

    • Thank you Indah. I know you want to jump always into the water 🙂 but now its cold rainy and stormy here. 🙁 I hope tomorrow it will be better. Have a great weekend Indah.

      • 😀 hahaha..I am choosy too..have to say that I haven’t dare yet to jump into the North Sea after all these years living in the Netherlands! Wishing a better weather tomorrow for you to enjoy!

        • …yes I hope so Lignum Draco inspired me to try some Candid Photography. Will try to shoot out of the hip some pic tomorrow at a craft fair. Not sure if there will be anything on it. I think it’s not easy but I will give it a try. And to make it even more difficult I will use only a 50mm prime.

          • He used 50 mm prime as well on his last post, and the result was so close! I am impressed of how he managed in taking candid photos with 50 mm – I thought he used sort of long tele-lens:)) Good luck at the fair tomorrow!!

  238. Fabulous! It looks so relaxing.

  239. Once again this week, your like button does not seem to be working. 🙁

    • Thank you for letting me know. That’s really crazy. I can’t understand it. I got some likes during the day and at the moment I have no clue where to look. I have seen your like worked a day later on the last post. Thank you very much for that. I will do no changes at this time, and if you don’t mind to try again later on. This way I can isolate the problem if it’s local or on the server before I contact the provider. I will do also some researches in the worpress forum.

  240. Lovely shot. 🙂

  241. very kewl lewks very satisfying 🙂

  242. They are really nice! I like the monochrome treats better than the color ones..Love the dog’s picture and the lady who talked on the phone.. How was the feeling when taking candid pictures? I always get nervous to do hands were always shaking :))

    • Thank you Indah. I was nervous too, there where also a lot of Securitas with earphone and mic and I just waited they say something but they did not even when I was making pictures of them. Most of the people are not recognising it if you carry the camera like grand papa on the belly. I even did not try to hide it. I agree the monochrome are better. I put the color once only about half an hour on and I will remove it again.

      • 😀 😀 hahaha..oh maybe I should use that trick – camera on the belly 🙂 I still can not do the candid photos, especially when using my huge DSLR Nikon – too obvious..Sony Nex 7 is similar size to Olympus EPL5, so maybe I should start using the Oly for candid..

        • Yes you can use the Oly, but if you hang the Nikon around the neck they don’t think that you make photos, you are only a tourist caring a camera 🙂 The click of the shutter is sometimes a bit disturbing and not all photos are perfect framed, or sharp, but you can shoot heaps and if you flip the display up you can check it without be too much remarked. I can see also that the shots are quite steady with long exposure. Maybe my belly helps a little. 🙂 One of the biggest problem I had was focusing. I used autofocus, but sometimes the cam focus not where u want and you can’t pick it. 🙁 I think Draco is manual focusing, but I had no success with it. It would be much easier with an old lens where you have the distance marked on it.

  243. Ahhh..A day at the beach–my fave activity..although it’s a lot more comfortable in the winter here than in summer!!

    • Thank you for stopping by and commenting. You must be in FL and I can imagine summer must be hot and humid. I spend long time ago 3 months in Clearwater over winter and it was beautiful. Here Autumn and Spring are the best, Summer is hot and windy and if it’s no wind, it’s even hotter and humid.

      • Isn’t Clearwater a beautiful spot? Opposite coast for me (we’re on the Atlantic side) but boy is the Gulf side nice! Such great fine grained sand on most of those beaches and the water is even warmer than it is here!

        • Yes it is and we liked the east cost too. You have beautiful beaches too. But finally we preferred Western Australia to settle.

  244. This is a wouderful photo, just perfect 🙂

  245. You’re a fan of relaxing at the beach in the summer? I am, but I have to make sure I’m in the shade or else Ill turn into a human tomato 😀 Sitting on the sand and hearing the waves crash on shore is music to my eyes…and sometimes I forget I am actually under the sun.

I love your the colourful umbrella in the photo stands out. If it wasn’t there, the photo would lose it’s cheery feel.

    • Thank you Mabel, I agree the umbrella has to be there, if not I would probably not taken the photo.

I’m very rarely at the beach itself, maybe because I’m living right at it and the sun here is just to strong to get grilled. When we have friends, they want always go for a swim or walk along the beach but alone we stay normally at the dry. 😀

      • Hahaha. Getting grilled by the sun. Haven’t heard this phrase before, I love it. I prefer staying dry too in the summer, much to people’s surprise. Sure, you may feel cool swimming in the water but at the same time that sun is still shining over you… 😀

The beach is about half an hour away from my place, so it’s pretty close to where I am. It’s always very windy there, though, which is why I don’t go there too much.

        • It’s the same here the wind start between 11 and 12am. That’s why umbrellas are not often seen but it cools down and dries the air.

          • Now that you pointed it out, you’re right. The umbrella in your photo is ramrod straight up. I”ve seen some people put up tents at the beach, but after a while they tend to fall apart. If you can’t find shade at the beach, might as well bury yourself in the sand 😀

  246. Those are really nice pictures. 🙂 Chrome really brings a lot of drama to photos.

    • True I totally underestimated monochrome and it is new land for me but I like it. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I’m glad you like it.

  247. Wonderful. Australia would have been cool to visit. Unfortunately it’s very far away..

    • Thank you Cardinal, that’s what all European say. But guess what for us Europe is in the exact same distance and all our friends over there think we should visit them every second year or so. 🙂 (I’m Swiss)

  248. Besonders die Fassade ist ganz klasse!
    LG, Petra

  249. I like your street photo gallery. It’s interesting to do street photography.

    • Thank you Cardinal this means a lot to me. It is interesting and quite tense. The only thing I know is that I will have a lot of bleary unframed shots for the bin. You never know what you get. It’s like buying a show bag full of candies open it at home and discover there is only rubbish in it. 🙂

  250. Definitely good examples of zigzag. We hope to see this some time at the end of next year.

  251. So there you are, living in my home town, and posting a photo from what is now my home ! Is this cool, or what ?! 😀

    • Thank you M-R. You are from WA and living now in Sydney? This is zigzag. 🙂 You are so lucky to call this beautiful building your home. Just don’t get too much disturbed if it gets crowded. 😀

  252. Makes me homesick.

  253. Which town in Switzerland ? I have a friend I love dearly who hales from Lausanne … but this is in the German part, no ?

    • It’s the opposite of Lausanne in the eastern part, Graubünden a small village it calls Jenaz. I lived close to Lausanne for 2 years, a beautiful area.

  254. never knew the opera house had such a zig zag pattern to the roof – great image.

    • Thank you Daniel. Yes it’s amazing how they tiled the roof with this special tiles. There is quite a history behind it.

  255. You did well. 🙂 Street photography is intimidating indeed but if you can go past through that, you can expand into this genre too.

    • Thank you Imelda this means a lot to me. Yes it is intimidating and it’s really outside of the comfort zone of landscape. It needs a big kick in the … to go out but it’s fun too and it gives you a little adrenalin push. This is healthy too. 😀 Holding the camera low helps a bit and it’s not so obvious but difficult to frame. Maybe once we have glasses with an inbuilt display. 🙂

  256. Bravo. I just noticed that there not that many shoe repair shops around anymore. I guess the lower prices of shoes have made the shoe repair shop a thing of the past. Thanks for sharing these photos.

  257. Cool selection of BW photos Erwin! Finally did it on shopping center! My fave is lady with her dog – that is right timing!!

    • Thank you Indah, yes it was in a pet shop. The girl showed the dog to someone and before she put it back into the cage she gave him a kiss. So sweet. I was so lucky, it’s my favour too.

  258. Perfect photos for the challenge! Really like the first photo, the tile pattern says it all! Still have to find or capture photos for this challenge 😉 This week challenge is too challenging for me 😀

    • Thank you Indah, I’m pretty sure there is a fish or island or the LBO with some zigzag 🙂 You have only too many photos 🙂 I thought the same when I first saw the theme.

      • 😀 😀 that’s brilliant idea Erwin..Thank you! I will check the fishes photos…I though I have one or two but not really sure if I managed capture the zig-zaging movement 😀

        • Don’t worry Indah on the photos they never move. 😀 You can use Photoshop and distort it with a bit of wrap to make it zigzag. 😀 Or the teeth of a shark are a real zigzag. 🙂

  259. Bali looks beautiful! It looks so tropical and balmy. Reminds me of the time I went on a cruise to Mexico…and I kind of regret not taking more pictures while there.

    • Thank you for stopping by and commenting Jessica, Yes Bali is very balmy the whole year round and a little humid but a beautiful holiday destination and very popular and close to Western Australia. 🙂

  260. Incredible shots and perfect for this week’s challenge. I never thought of the Opera House as zigging and zagging, now you make me see it in a different light. When I went to the Opera House a few years back, I didn’t notice those tiles on the roof…ugh, i wish I did 😀 On my visit to this tourist attraction back then, I remember feeling not very impressed with it. I don’t know why. All I remember of the Opera House was that it was very run-down. Maybe I need to revisit it.

    • Thank you very much Mabel. I had the same first impression in 1997 when I have seen the Opera House the first time in real. I was disappointed, maybe the expectation because of all this photos was to high. At my second visit ten years later we had a great guided tour. There I was only disappointed from the size of the opera itself, but very impressed of the concert hall and the rest of the architecture. Maybe you have to revisit it or see an event in it.

      • You are right. It’s probably all the glitzy photos – and New Year fireworks images and videos – of the Opera House that we see, giving us the impression the structure is something very grand, polished and gigantic in size. In reality when I saw it with my own eyes, it seemed quite small.

I do hope to visit it again someday, and like you do a guided tour of it. Need to see it from a different perspective.

  261. I love these shots for the challenge!!! My fav is ‘texture in the sand’… hey everybody!! check out

    • Thank you very much I’m so glad you like it. It’s a little piece of art washed away after the next high tide. I captured it at the famous Cable Beach in Brome Western Australia.

  262. Great shots, the lower one reminds me of fireworks! 🙂

    • Thank you for your comment. I never thought it could be a firework. You are right the reflecting sun gives a little touch to it. I see more a flower in it.

  263. Ervin your gravatar photo rocks too 🙂

  264. Love them all! The first three photos are stunning! I would not guess they are river water. Have you considered to print them and hang them on the wall at home?

    • Wow thank you so much Indah, this means a lot for me. I’m so glad you like it. No I did not print it. To be honest I rarely print a photo I shot. I can A3+ print but I don’t do it often. Did you see the video? I love how the structures are changing in the slow flowing water.

      • Today I have a chance to watch the video 🙂 Not sure what happens with my internet connection but sometimes vimeo is too slow to access 🙁 It is a well made video – with matching song 😀

        • Great. Thank you Indah. Yes I put a lot of effort to find the matching music. This one was easy, just searched after river in my iTune library. 😀

  265. that selfie above rocks, especially the moustaches 🙂

  266. Great texture captures!

  267. This must be one of the most photographed attractions in the world — but your is the eye opener~!

Up close and personal, I like that. Must be sheer hell for tired seagulls …

    • You are right Argus, it’s an icon so many times photographed from far, but getting close there are so many details. The roof as main attraction, is only one of it and this special tiling would deserve much more recognition. Thank you for visiting and your comment.

  268. The prison pics are eerie – limited room indeed!

    • Yes it’s sure not for claustrophobics. I would not stay a day in there. Thanks for your time and comment.

  269. Stunning photos Erwin!

  270. so beautiful!!!

  271. I just got back from Australia and found many zig zags there as well 🙂 great photo on top

  272. Thank you Cardinal.

  273. Trying out the silhouette portrait as I can see! Love the last three photos, they make a perfect short story – I feel like she was talking a very exciting story 😀

    • Hi Indah, Thank you. The silhouette is easy, just take a photo against the bright sky or background and play a little bit with the sliders in Lightroom. Yes the girl is quite excited. I like how she keeps eye contact with him. 🙂

  274. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for liking sunny sun

  275. Great choice of photos for the Monochrome Madness! The Petronas tower is super!!

  276. Your villa looks so beautiful, though I didn’t saw the name of the place. What is the name and were is located?
    Kind greetings,

  277. Thanks so much for pointing out that those patterns are not from the top of a cappuccino 😀 That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the photos. Such wonderful water formations, like an outdoor gallery there. For free. Did you throw any stones there and saw what happened to the patterns?

    • Thank you Mabel. No I did not throw a stone into it, but you can see the change of the formation in the video if you click on the link. The patterns are constantly changing from the current.

  278. 🙂 here’s my “balsam”: I was there 2 years ago… very impressive, indeed, but (to me!) less than Taipei 101… 🙂

    • Thank you for your balsam Melanie. I’ve never been in Taipei. But PETRONAS would be bigger if you stick one tower on top of the other. 😀 . I’m getting ready for Europe. Start hiding. 🙂

      • 😀 I’m afraid of no virtual “ghost”… 😉 btw, last weekend I was in Zürich and Luzern… stay healthy, “cool” and enjoy your European vacation, young man! 🙂

  281. Thank you. Enjoy browsing your blog also. Enjoying the views from down under. Bit more beach and blue water than I have here in Central Mexico.

  282. Perfect silhouette Erwin! The black and white tone makes it artistic!

    • Thank you Indah. Thought you would say that. 🙂 This one was easy I was very lucky with this week theme. I’m ready for take off to get closer to you… 😀

      • Great!! Have a great vacation and enjoy Europe!!

        • Landed!. The weather in Amsterdam is worse then winter in Perth. Freezing cold and one rain shower after the other. You should let the sun shine for longer than 2 minutes. 😀 Have a great week Indah. 🙂

  283. Great character study!

  284. So artistically captured the portrait, in a different style. Loved it very much. Thanks for sharing.

  285. Nicely done!

  286. This is a lovely shot, Erwin. Doesn’t look like the guy noticed you taking his photo. Love the contrast in this one – there doesn’t seem to be anything in the background at all. Right place at the right time, good timing.

    • Thank you Mabel. No I was sitting at the table and played with the camera and he waited till he get served his order. The background is the blue sky.

      • You’re very patient. Then again, I’m sure you always do that while waiting for the right moment to take a photo. Had no idea the backdrop was originally a blue sky. Either he’s sitting by the window or that is an outdoor restaurant or cafe.

        • Yes it’s an outdoor café. We had a beautiful winter day warmer than here in Switzerland now in summer. 🙂

  287. These are very good photos and textures.

    • Thank you very much Imelda. This means a lot to me. You made my day but I don’t have enough time to put something up for this week. I’m in holiday in Europe. 🙂

  288. Wünsche Euch eine ganz tolle Zeit in Europa!
Bin schon auf Deine Bilder sehr gespannt!
    LG, Petra

    • Vielen Dank Petra.

      LG, Erwin
